LYA Students Volunteer with Leket Israel
On their recent trip to Israel, LYA students volunteered with Leket Israel, Israel's National Food Bank--picking 400 kilos of oranges in a single afternoon. According to chaperone Rochel Leah Kosofsky, ''At LYA we teach the students that we are leaders who give back to our community. It was a great feeling to know that we had helped people in Israel.”

A recent Taglit-Birthright Israel trip sponsored by Shorashim and KOACH was both a typical Birthright trip and a “uniquely Asperger Syndrome” experience rolled into one. The 21 young adults, ages 18-26 and from all corners of the US, spent ten days over Winter Break taking in many of the important sites and experiences of Israel -- including picking oranges for the needy with Leket Israel.

YouthAbility members picked potatoes as part of the Project Leket, through which volunteers harvest produce for the hungry and distribute it to families, organizations and soup kitchens.
