Leket Israel: Fulfilling Biblical Commands in Modern Israel

ISRAEL MINISTRY of TOURISM - Christians visiting Israel who are looking for a unique and meaningful experience are encouraged to volunteer for Leket Israel. Providing nourishment for the people is of great concern to G-d, so much so that He commanded in Leviticus: "And you shall not glean your vineyard, nor shall you leket (gather) every grape of your vineyard: you shall leave them for the poor and the stranger: I am the Lord your G-d. Leviticus 19:10.

Leket Israel: Fulfilling Biblical Commands in Modern Israel

Providing nourishment for the people is of great concern to God, so much so that He commanded in Leviticus:

"And you shall not glean your vineyard, nor shall you leket (gather)every grape of your vineyard: you shall leave them for the poor and the stranger: I am the Lord your God. Leviticus 19:10

And in Matthew 15:32:  And Jesus called His disciples to Him, and said, "I feel compassion for the people, because they ... have nothing to eat.

Leket Israel (www.leket.org) is fulfilling an ancient biblical command right now in modern Israel. We are involved in gleaning, in fact that is what leket means-to glean.

Leket Israel, the National Food Bank of Israel, rescues food and delivers it to 300 non-profit organizations, including soup kitchens, elderly daycare centers and homeless shelters that feed tens of thousands of undernourished Israeli children and adults daily. In 2011Leket Israel distributed over 21 million pounds of food.

We encourage Christians who are touring Israel and looking for a unique experience, to consider an opportunity to give back by volunteering for Leket Israel. This unity of Christians and Jews working side by side supports the work of God in Israel. It is a blessing for Christians to visit and while on their pilgrimage, Christians can also be a blessing - by picking oranges!  Imagine the contentment you will feel... Even a one-hour stop makes for a pleasant change in a typical itinerary and makes a world of difference for Israelis in need!
